Katarina began skating on ice when she was five. When her talent for skating became more apparent her admission was granted to the Karl-Marx-Stadt school that is geared towards kids with a athletic talent. In this school, she was introduced to her coach Jutta Muller. Witt had her first breakthrough year in 1982 after she finished second at the World Championships held in Copenhagen. Her graceful and elegant style caught the attention of everyone, and from that point onwards she was dominating the competition. Olympic victory Katarina Wit took home gold in ice skating for women at Sarajevo Winter Games 1984. Sarajevo Winter Games 1984 after a highly competitive and intense contest. Her victory four years ago was a bit more tense. The free skater lost however, she took home the gold medal for the mandatory figures and her program was short. Witt became the very first repeat medalist in figure skating for women since Sonja Henie. Hall of Fame Witt competed at Lillehammer Winter Games in 1994 following a career that was successful as an actor. People were captivated by her performance despite the fact that she only was seventh. Witt was admitted to the World Figure Skating Hall of Fame in 1995.
